Neither the Mega Millions nor the Powerball jackpot was claimed over the weekend, bringing the two draw lotteries’ grand prizes to an estimated $1.9 billion combined to start the week.
The Powerball jackpot sits at $800 million (cash value: $384.8 million) for Monday night’s drawing, while Mega Millions has soared into the three-comma club, estimated at $1.1 billion (cash value: $525.8 million) for Tuesday’s drawing.
If someone wins the Powerball jackpot Monday night, it would be the sixth-largest in the game’s 32-year history. If there’s a winning ticket for Mega Millions Tuesday night, it would be the fifth-richest score in the 22-year history of that game.
Five millionaires minted
Saturday’s Powerball drawing marked the 35th in row without a grand prize winner — dating back to Jan. 1.
No player had a perfect match for Saturday’s numbers — 6, 23, 25, 34, 51 with a red Powerball of 3 — to claim the theoretical jackpot of $758 million.
Five tickets, however, matched the five white balls and won a million dollars apiece. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, Indiana, Texas, and Washington.
Powerball tickets for Monday or Mega Millions tickets for Tuesday cost $2, with an option in some states to pay an extra $1 to play the prize multiplier. Tickets for both lotteries are sold in all U.S. jurisdictions except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.
