Who says 13 is an unlucky number?
On the 13th Powerball drawing since the jackpot was won on April 6 — exactly one month earlier — it hit again Monday night, for an estimated $215 million.
All that was immediately known about the winner was that the ticket was sold in Florida. Jacksonville radio station 104.5 WOKV reported more specifically on Tuesday morning that the ticket was sold at a Publix store on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Shores.
If the winner chooses the lump sum cash payout option, this one will just barely crack the nine-figure mark before taxes, at an estimated $100.1 million. Notably, Florida does not charge state taxes on lottery winnings.
What were the lucky numbers?
The winning numbers drawn Monday night were 7, 23, 24, 56, 60, and red Powerball 25. The Florida ticket matched a perfect six-for-six (a 1-in-292.2 million chance for any individual ticket purchased).
Another ticket sold in Idaho matched all five white balls but not the red Powerball, played the Power Play that landed on 2x, and won $2 million before taxes.
There were also seven $100,000 winners and six $50,000 winners.
Monday night’s jackpot pales in comparison to the previous Powerball jackpot won a month earlier. That one was worth $1.326 billion had the winners taken an annuity, though the Oregon trio that split the money — Cheng Saephan, Duanpen Saephan, and Laizo Chao — went for the lump-sum option ($621 million before taxes), as most jackpot winners do.
The Powerball jackpot now resets to $20 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
Mega Millions jackpot ballooning
All eyes in the lottery world now turn to Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, which has an estimated jackpot of $306 million (cash option: $140.1 million).
The drawing takes place at 11 p.m. ET. Odds of going a perfect six-for-six in Mega Million are 1-in-302.6 million.
The jackpot last hit on March 26 in New Jersey, for $1.13 billion. This will be the 12th drawing since that win — setting up Friday’s drawing as lucky no. 13 if there are no grand prize winners on Tuesday.
Tickets for either lottery are sold in 45 states — all but Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah — as well as Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and (for Powerball only) Puerto Rico. Tickets cost $2 apiece, with an option in some states to pay an extra $1 for the prize multiplier.
